How (and Why) Outpatient Care Works

Outpatient treatment is most effective for clients who have a strong support network, both in and outside of the Enage Wellness community, and who have maintained a consistent foundation of sobriety. This is when you’ve cultivated new habits and have learned to lean on positive coping skills and relapse-prevention strategies.

Studies show that better outpatient treatment outcomes are achieved in programs that offer the same core interventions as those provided at Engage Wellness, including education, relapse prevention strategies, family involvement, medication-assisted treatment, mental and behavioral health therapies, long-term follow-up access, and collaboration with clients on continuing care plans.[1]

As you live in this new phase of sober independence, your typical life rhythms and daily routines come back to center stage. You’re working or at school, fulfilling home life responsibilities, and loving your hobbies again. You’re living a sober life and enjoying all the benefits of recovery.

Outpatient care offers weekly group sessions and individual therapy as needed to help you maintain your connection to support. It’s a lifeline you can rely on and a trusted circle of influence you can turn to whenever you need. Outpatient care empowers you to continue building your new life without compromising your recovery success.

Efficacy of Outpatient Care

Industry standards indicate that outpatient treatment is often as effective as residential treatment for many patients. The results of one study revealed a significant reduction in substance use, binge drinking, PTSD, and depression symptoms after two weeks of outpatient treatment.[2]

Another study showed that participants who struggled with alcohol use disorders had better detox completion rates and higher rates of abstinence in outpatient care than inpatient care after one to two months.[3]

What Outpatient Alumni Are Saying About Engage Wellness

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source.

There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don’t look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn’t anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary

Engage Wellness Modalities for Outpatient Care

Group therapy sessions occur on a weekly basis at this level of care. Receive valuable peer support, practice coping skills, learn from and support one another, and gain valuable insights on sobriety.

Individual therapy sessions and medication reviews can be scheduled as needed. The goal is to ensure you have the level of support you need to maintain sobriety and healing. If a step-up in care is needed, that can be arranged.

Therapy modalities practiced in group and individual therapy sessions may include one or more of the following:

Outpatient care is for sustained recovery support after higher levels of care are completed. Clients will attend weekly group sessions and receive individual therapy and medication reviews as needed. Your sober life is already happening; outpatient care just makes it easier.

Medication interventions can help alleviate withdrawal symptoms, manage cravings, and support overall comfort during treatment. Paired with mental and behavioral health therapies, this is a highly effective approach to treatment.

While we do not offer in-house detox services at Engage Wellness, we are connected with an extensive local network of trusted providers who can meet detox needs in early recovery. After an initial consultation, we can determine together whether detox placement is necessary.

An IOP program blends part-time treatment with daily life to offer flexibility and promote independence. Our approach to care includes multiple group and individual therapy sessions per week, as well as continuing recovery education, coping skill training, and more.

Finding Your Place on the Continuum of Care

At Engage Wellness Missouri, we understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to alcohol and substance use disorder treatment. Every person’s experience and needs are simply too unique to justify a cookie-cutter program.

We offer multiple levels of care to meet you where you are in your recovery journey. Every client will first complete an initial assessment to determine the best level of care to address current concerns.

Once the appropriate level of care is prescribed, you will receive an individualized treatment plan that outlines the recommended therapies, medications, and interventions. When you are feeling more stable and can exhibit a higher degree of sober independence, you can transition to a lower level of care.
